Bryce, I really appreciate two things about your approach. First, your interpretation of “binding and loosing” as covenant and forgiveness, considered together with Arendt’s ideas of promise and pardon, puts the passage clearly in the context of public life. Second, your comparison with Schmitt is timely. A politics built on promise and forgiveness offers a strong alternative to sovereignty defined by the exception. This is helpful—thank you.
